We had a great start to the school year and I am very excited about all of the possibilities this year can bring! Thank you for returning all of the paper work and for signing up for Edmodo and Remind! Our first spelling list and our first ten Greek/Latin roots will come home on Monday. The spelling words will be in your child’s agenda. There will be tests on Friday for the spelling and root words. Last Thursday and Friday we learned about the attacks on September 11th, 2001. Students were able to look at newspapers and magazines from that week and the months that followed. We watched President Bush’s speech and analyzed it to answer questions. On Monday we will look at the impacts of 9/11 on our economy, aviation, increased security, and Muslim vs. Non-Muslim tensions. On Tuesday, we will explore, through several readings, the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. Beginning on Wednesday, we will begin our ELA unit on the book The Lightning Thief and our Social Studies unit on Ancient Greece, which will provide a foundation to better understand the novel. We will learn about Mt. Olympus and key Greek gods and goddesses mentioned in the book. Over the weekend, I had asked students to think about a personal and academic W.I.G. (Wildly Important Goal) for the school year. It is my hope to have our goals written in our Leadership Notebooks by Wednesday and to have our Class Mission Statement written by then as well. When completed, I will send a copy of our mission statement home. Thank you again for helping to make our first three days go smoothly! I appreciate your support and look forward to an amazing year!
